EAR LOBE REPAIR SURGERY

What are the causes of Split earlobes or torn earlobes?
  • Acute trauma: Earlobes may be stretched due to incidents involving children, pets, or clothing.
  • Age related
  • Tight earrings: Earrings that are excessively tight can impede blood flow to the earlobe, potentially leading to necrosis and tissue death in that area.
  • Congenital:Occasionally, congenital factors can also contribute to this issue.
What are the causes of widened piercing holes?

They can arise from wearing heavy earrings or from gradual pulling caused by heavy earrings getting caught or tugged.

How is earlobe surgery performed?

The area is cleaned initially, followed by the administration of local anesthetic. The surgery entails excising a small portion of skin around the slit or widened hole and suturing it back together. If you intend to wear earrings again, your surgeon may leave a small opening. The procedure typically lasts 30-45 minutes.

What do I expect post procedure?

After the procedure, an antiseptic will be applied to the treated area, and a loose bandage will be used to dress the surgical site. You can then leave the doctor's clinic. Depending on the type of suture used, you may need to return for stitch removal. However, if self-dissolving sutures are used, this step may not be necessary.

What is the post care procedure?

Following must be followed:

  • Keep the surgical site dry for 24-48 hours post-procedure.
  • Follow your doctor's instructions closely regarding prescribed pain and infection control medications.
  • Adhere to daily wound care as recommended by your doctor.
  • Visit your doctor for stitch removal if instructed, typically 3-5 days after the procedure.
  • Report any bleeding, acute pain, swelling, discharge around the operated area, or fever to your doctor immediately.
  • You may be advised to refrain from wearing earrings for a few weeks post-surgery to facilitate proper healing and scar maturation.
What are the risks involved in the procedure?

Like any surgical procedure, there may be associated risks:

  • Pain
  • Bleeding and hematoma formation.
  • Infection
  • Scarring
  • Keloid formation, especially if you have such tendency or family history.
